Abstract We consider a macroscale model of transport and reaction chemical species in porous medium with special focus on mineral precipitation–dissolution processes. In the literature, it is frequently proposed that rate should depend reactive surface area, so amount mineral. point out used ill posed sense admits non-unique solutions. investigate what consequences this non-uniqueness has numerical solution model. The main novelty article our proposal certain substitution which removes ill-posedness from system leads to better results than some “ad hoc methods.” think rather elegant way get rid difficulties much less technical other ideas.
